Policy for Voluntary Compliance With
Governor Davis’ Executive Order
Regarding Energy Conservation

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department has enacted a voluntary energy conservation plan to comply with the Governor’s Executive Order.  This policy is a public safety measure designed in response to our statewide energy crisis.

The Sheriff’s Department, in response to Governor Davis’ Executive Order, is requesting that all Orange County retail establishments, including but not limited to, shopping centers, auto malls and dealerships substantially reduce outdoor lighting during non-business hours, except as necessary for the health and safety of public, employees, or property.

The Orange County retail business community within the unincorporated areas of the county as well as businesses in the cities of Dana Point, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Woods, Lake Forest, Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, Villa Park and Stanton are requested to complete and file a written energy conservation plan with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

The Sheriff’s Department urges all retail establishments to participate in this voluntary program to meet our electricity reduction mandate, so that enforcement actions do not become necessary.  Your voluntary participation will ensure public safety is not jeopardized by the California energy crisis.
