Note: Failure to comply with these instructions may result in delays in processing your application.

Contact the CCW Unit at ccwpermits@ocsd.org to arrange an interview appointment. Walk-ins will not be accepted without an appointment. If email is unavailable, contact the CCW unit at 714-834-7229 for assistance.

The following items/documents are required at the time of interview:

CCW Initial Application Instructions:

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD) Carry a Concealed Weapon (CCW) Licensing Unit is dedicated to serving the citizens of Orange County through the timely processing of your CCW application. In order to assist us with this goal, it is imperative you bring the following documentation with you to your appointment:

  • Completed application (One sided)
    • Good Cause statement
      • The OCSD requires CCW applicants to provide a Good Cause statement for the issuance of a CCW License (Please refer to OCSD Policy 218.3(f)1).
      • Complete the “Details of Reason” section on page 10 of the standard application.
      • Attach additional pages, if needed (A Word document, with your signature will suffice).
    • Supporting Documentation for Good Cause
      • Please provide all relevant and current documentation in support of your Good Cause Statement (i.e.: paystubs, bank statements, business licenses, real estate listings, police reports, restraining orders, etc.)
  • Complete Section 7 (pages 9 & 10) of the standard application
    • Do not sign pages 8 or 11 as our investigator must witness your signature.
    • Be prepared to discuss your responses with your investigator
  • A copy of 2 recent utility bills (In your name) showing residency in Orange County
  • A color copy of your driver's license
  • Military ID and copy of orders or DD214 

Your appointment will start on time and we recommend arriving 15 minutes early for processing.

Weapons, bags, briefcases, purses and guests are not permitted to your appointment.

Please, be prepared on the day of your scheduled appointment. Failure to provide the necessary documents may result in significant delays in the processing of your application.

If you miss or are unable to make your scheduled appointment, please notify the staff for rescheduling. If at any point in the CCW application process you are no longer interested in pursuing a CCW License, please notify our staff and we will withdraw your application.
