The Transportation Bureau’s primary mission is the secure transportation of inmates from their jail facility to court appearances and between jail facilities. The Transportation Bureau’s office is located in the IRC security lot where personnel and equipment are based. Along with court appearances, Transportation Bureau transports inmates to medical appointments, emergency medical treatment, court ordered medical evaluations, funerals, etc. throughout Orange County and adjoining counties. Transportation Bureau maintains a Statewide detail that consists of a 9-deputy team. The Statewide team handles prisoner transport to prisons and county jails throughout the state. An ancillary responsibility of the Transportation Bureau is the deployment, maintenance and storage of the command post vehicles. Transportation Bureau staff completes an average of 2,400 trips per month transporting approximately 437,000 inmates per year.
