From June 17th through the 19th, 11 Orange County Sheriff’s Explorers competed in the 2004 Channel Islands Challenge in Oxnard, California. Post Advisors Deputies John Gomez and Kim Milewski and Supervising Radio Dispatcher Karen Daly supervised our team, who competed against over 150 other explorers from throughout California and other states. The Sheriff’s team came away with very impressive second place trophies for the Hostage Rescue and Domestic Disturbance scenarios, third place trophies for Drill, the 5-person Tug-a-war, the 10-person Tug-a war and the Relay Race. Individual awards went to Tim Ashbaugh - first place trophy for Daytime Ride-along scenario; Dan Grijalva - second place trophy for Nighttime Ride-along scenario; and, Bailey Bearden - second place for Female Obstacle Course. We would like to congratulate the following Explorers Scouts for a job well done.
