Currently the Orange County Sheriff's Department is looking for young men and women who live in the Orange County, California area who are interested in pursuing a career in the Law Enforcement field. Philosophy

The "Learning for Life" division of The Boy Scouts of America developed its Explorer Division for career-oriented young adults, between the ages of 14-20. Members are referred to as "Explorers" and the program is distinctively different from scouting. Exploring is a co-educational, young adult program developed and supervised by local community organizations, businesses and individuals providing an opportunity for young adults to experience a particular career field.

A Little Bit About the Post

Explorer Post #449 is sponsored by the Orange County Sheriff's Department as a community-based policing program. This successful program is designed to educate and involve young men and women in police operations and to interest them in law enforcement functions whether they enter law enforcement as a career or not.

What Explorers Do

As an Explorer, young adults have the opportunity to assist the Orange County Sheriff's Department in community and civic events such as parades, health fairs, "Kid Print" programs and during times of emergency such as floods and natural disasters. Explorers can broaden their understanding of the challenges and the job skills that make up their community's police service by participating in the Department's "Ride-A-Long" program. In addition to gaining a working knowledge of police work, the participants have the opportunity to give of themselves to their community. Although post 449 is law enforcement oriented, Explorers are volunteers and do not serve as police employees, sworn or civilian.
