| Thee Rancho Santa Margarita Division was created with four members in 2001. Today there are twenty two young people, participating in various aspects of law enforcement. The Explorers attend weekly meetings, volunteer for special events, attend a five-day four-night academy, compete in competitions, go on ride-alongs in patrol and learn many aspects of law enforcement. The Rancho Santa Margarita Division also has Bicycle Patrol Certified Explorers who are qualified to ride with city deputies during the summer months. The Rancho Santa Margarita Explorers have their weekly Explorer meetings on Wednesday from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Rancho Santa Margarita city hall - Police Services.
The RSM Division Advisor is Deputy James Davis. He has been employed with the Sheriff's Department since 1981. Having over 19 years of patrol duty, James brings a wealth of experience to his division. He has taught at the Sheriff's Academy and enjoys sharing knowledge and preparing explorers for their futures. At the young age of eight, James started his law enforcement interest as an explorer in Los Angeles. James has led the Rancho Santa Margarita Division for over five years, and in 1999 he reactivated the current Sheriff's Harbor Explorer Division. He was responsible for recruiting new members and placing an advisor to that division in addition to taking responsibility for rewriting and updating the explorer manual. James currently works within the Harbor Division. |
