| The Orange County Law Enforcement Explorer Advisor Association (OCLEEAA) sponsored the 2005 Summer Explorer Academy at the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Center in Los Alamitos, California, from August 1st through August 4th. The Explorer Academy simulates an abbreviated basic law enforcement academy. Seventy four explorers, from throughout Orange and Los Angeles Counties, began the academy; 72 successfully graduated. Orange County Sheriff's Department Explorer Post 449 was strongly represented and proudly saw 17 explorers graduate at the Los Alamitos Base Theater on August 4th. We would like to congratulate the following explorers from Post 449 for a very impressive showing: We would like to recognize the following Sheriff's Explorers for completing the 2005 OCLEEA Explorer Summer Academy.
Explorer Post 449 would like to thank Deputy Bill Simandl (Theo Lacy Facility), who was the Director of the Academy, Dispatch Supervisor Karen Daly (ECB) who was one of the Assistant Directors, Deputy Sherri Gilman (James A. Musick Facility) and Deputy Anton Pereyra (Intake Release Center) who mentored, trained and monitored the explorers in their role as Explorer Academy Tactical Officers, and Explorers Mike Grijalva, Carlos Ortiz, Yanira Rojo, Natalie Garcia, Alison Tornow and Jessica Ortega for assisting the Tactical Officers at the academy. Explorer Post 449 would also like to thank Deputy Jim Hoffman and his K-9 Zappa for the excellent demonstration and training at the academy and Sheriff's helicopter Pilots Deputy Santos Garcia and Deputy Mark Northart for landing one the Sheriff's helicopter's at the base for the explorers to observe and talk to the pilots.
