| The Orange County Law Enforcement Explorer Advisor Association (OCLEEAA) sponsored the 2007 Winter Explorer Academy at the Los Alamitos Military Base, from February 16th through February 19th. The Explorer Academy simulates an abbreviated basic law enforcement academy. 94 explorers, from throughout Orange and Los Angeles Counties, began the academy; 88 successfully graduated. Orange County Sheriff's Department Explorer Post 449 was strongly represented and proudly saw 17 explorers graduate at the Garden Grove Community Center, on February 19th. Assistant Sheriff Kim Markuson, Captain Dave Wilson and Lieutenant Tom Slayton were present at the graduation. We would like to congratulate the following explorers from Post 449 for a very impressive showing:

Explorer Post 449 would like to thank Deputy Sherri Gilman (South Operations - San Clemente Police Services), who was the Assistant Director of the Academy, Deputy Richard Oates (Intake Release Center) and Deputy Gregg Surrell (Lemoreaux Justice Center) who mentored, trained and monitored the explorers in their role as Explorer Academy Tactical Officers, and Explorers Yanira Rojo, and Andrew Ha for assisting the Tactical Officers at the academy.
