2004 OCLEEAA Summer Academy

Explorer Post Badge LogoThe Orange County Law Enforcement Explorer Advisor Association (OCLEEAA) sponsored the 2004 Summer Explorer Academy at Wrightwood, California, from August 22nd through August 26th. The Explorer Academy simulates an abbreviated basic law enforcement academy. Seventy-six explorers, from throughout Orange and Los Angeles Counties, began the academy; 75 successfully graduated. Orange County Sheriff’s Department Explorer Post 449 was strongly represented and proudly saw 18 explorers graduate at the Garden Grove Community Center on August 26th. We would like to congratulate Natalie Vargas for taking 5th place for the Overall Outstanding Explorer and 5th place for Drill.

We would like to recognize the following Sheriff’s Explorers for completing the 2004 OCLEEA Explorer Summer Academy.

Explorer Post 449 would like to thank Deputy Sherri Gilman (James Musick Facility) and Supervising Radio Dispatcher Supervisor Karen Daly (Emergency Communications Bureau), who mentored, trained and monitored the explorers in their role as Explorer Academy Tactical Officers, and Explorer Mike Grijalva for assisting the Tactical Officers at the academy.

Explorer Post 449 would also like to thank Captain Christine Murray, Lieutenant James Lazzaro, Sergeant Kirk Antes, and Deputy Dan Meyers of Sheriff’s Transportation for arranging the Orange County Sheriff’s Department buses used to transport the 75 explorers to and from the academy facility, and Deputy Rick Johnson from North Operations for putting on an excellent K-9 demonstration for the academy attendees and staff. Special thanks go to the Sheriff’s Video Unit for memorializing the academy events and antics for the viewing pleasure of the audience at the graduation.
