Basic Academy Class 202 - Fallen Officers Memorial Run
On Wednesday, December 12, Basic Academy Class #202 of the Orange County Sheriff’s Regional Training Academy participated in the Fallen Officers Memorial Run, formerly known as the Hot Dog Run. The run consists of a 5K course starting at the gates of the Tustin Academy Facility and concluding at the site of the new Orange County Peace Officer’s Memorial.
This last physical training session for the recruits honored Fallen Sergeant Matthew Davis of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. Sergeant Davis was involved in a traffic collision while on duty as a motorcycle officer in Mission Viejo. A driver pulled out in front of Davis at an intersection. Despite heroic medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries two days later on September 22, 2002. He is one of the 51 officers that will be honored at the new memorial.
