Shop with a Cop brings holiday cheer for local kids
Christmas became brighter for 10 Mission Viejo children thanks to Target's "Shop with a Cop" program and Mission Viejo Police Services.
Target on Alicia Parkway in Mission Viejo joined forces with Police Services to host the special morning.
Sheriff's School Resource Officers (SROs) worked with school administrators to find local students who had displayed good character and decision-making skills despite dealing with difficult life circumstances. Thanks to a special Target grant, store gift cards were bought and given to the students by Lt. Chris Wilson, Chief of Mission Viejo Police Services, and Fermin Velasquez of Target. Before their shopping spree, kids were greeted at the store with hot chocolate and snacks. School Resource Officers then accompanied them as they traversed the store, helping them to select gifts and stay on budget.
"I truly appreciate Target's generosity and continuous community outreach," Lt. Wilson said. "The SROs are such a valuable asset to our schools in Mission Viejo. Today, they helped to further humanize peace officers to group of very deserving youngsters."
Once the children were done shopping, Target staff wrapped each gift and sent them on their way to enjoy what is sure to be a memorable holiday season.
