The 29th Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup Relay race was held on April 13 and 14th. This is the largest law enforcement athletic event in the world. The race draws over 10,000 runners and support personnel. There were 262 teams involved with the race including teams from Canada, Germany, and Australia. The Sheriff’s Department has participated in this event for the past 27 years. This year, we had three teams who took on the 120-mile, 20-person-relay-race across the desert. The Open Division team completed the race in 15 hours and 25 minutes. The team placed 15th in the most competitive division and 28th overall. This was a 13 minute improvement from last year’s time. The Invitational Mixed team finished with a time of 18 hours and 40 minutes. The team placed 40th in their division and 184th overall. The OC Crime Lab Running Team also had a great year. They finally beat their big rivals, (the only other all forensics team- The LA County Coroner) by an hour! Congratulations to all the runners, and thank you to their support personnel.
