The following letter was received by Yorba Linda Police Services, reprinted with permission from the senior living community.
This letter will serve to commend the performance of a deputy who responded to our call last week in which we reported suspected Financial Elder Abuse.
On April 8, 2013, our Senior Living Community Director drove to pick up a new resident who was at her daughter’s residence. Their reception was less than cordial. The very next day, our new resident was victimized by financial exploitation when her daughter withdrew over $100,000 from her savings account; which withdrawal we discovered when Resident Support took the resident, at her request, to the local branch of her bank to have her daughter’s name removed from the account.
From the time the deputy received our call, his actions were prompt, professional and performed with a great depth of understanding and compassion. His investigation here at our facility was conducted in a thorough manner, and because of his tenacity and commitment to justice, this matter was concluded in just days with receipt of a bank cashier’s check sent certified mail to our office from resident’s daughter.
We take our responsibilities to protect and care for our residents very seriously here at the Senior Living Community. Because of the deputy’s actions, our new resident feels safe and empowered to begin this new chapter of her life in the secure knowledge that she will be protected.
With sincere appreciation, SENIOR LIVING COMMUNITY
