Forensic Scientist Heather Pevney Receives Professional Services Command Excellence Award
Heather Pevney started at the Orange County Crime Lab (OCCL) in September 2007. Prior to the OCCL, she worked at the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory (AFDIL) and the private Human Identification Technologies (HIT) laboratory in Redlands, California. Heather currently works as a Forensic Scientist III working on major crime, property crime and cold cases.
In addition to being a skilled case analyst, Heather has considerable expertise evaluating and troubleshooting scientific instruments. She helped validate and implement new technology in the DNA laboratory including the robotic handling of DNA samples and the establishment of the high-volume DNA Analysis Line. She is currently on a team of DNA scientists evaluating Rapid DNA technology and how it might be used to analyze various types of biological evidence found at crime scenes.
Heather carefully evaluates each assigned case and performs the analyses appropriately. Her conclusions are unbiased, easy to understand, and scientifically sound. Her maturity, dedication, and professional commitment to the high quality of service in the Crime Laboratory make her an appropriate recipient for the Professional Services Command Excellence Award.
