On Saturday, January 25, female law enforcement officers from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Riverside Police Department, Santa Ana Police Department and Orange County Probation hit the gridiron to raise money for Riverside Police Officer Andrew Tachias who was shot and left critically injured last February by fugitive homicide suspect Christopher Dorner.
Tachias who is still recovering from his injuries was present at the games along with approximately 1,000 spectators. The Orange County All-Stars beat out the Riverside Police Pistols in the first match-up of the day. In the second game, the Santa Ana Hogs won over the Orange County Probation Grid-Iron Girls.
The final tally on the funds raised is still pending but organizers believe that approximately $15,000 was raised to support Tachias. Those interested in assisting Tachias with his continuing recovery can still make donations by contacting the Riverside Police Officers Association at 951-784-1034.
