Mounted Enforcement Deputies Make Felony Drug Arrest
We are happy to introduce the Mounted Enforcement Unit (MEU). The MEU is an integral part of Sheriff's operations offering high-profile patrol to parks, beaches and special events throughout Orange County.
The Orange County Regional MEU is a cooperative effort between OCSD, Anaheim PD, Buena Park PD, Garden Grove PD and Santa Ana PD. Together, the Regional MEU can field over 60 mounted members to address crowd control needs at high profile events throughout the county, such as the Major League Baseball's World Series and the National Hockey League's Stanley Cup. Over the past 35 years, The OCSD MEU has grown to 18 members; three sergeants and 15 deputies comprised of regular, reserve, and extra help deputies all working MEU in addition to their normal duty assignments.
On March 18, 2014 two MEU officers showed their great skills and intuition by making a felony arrest in San Juan Capistrano. Two suspicious subjects fled from a park when MEU deputies attempted contact with them. While fleeing, one suspect threw a white object into a bush and then proceeded to head back towards the deputies. Once the subject complied with orders and was detained, the deputies located the object thrown into the bush. A large bag of methamphetamine was found and the subject was taken into custody. Our Mounted Enforcement Unit is making a difference in our communities, and protecting our residents in this unique assignment.
Making Orange County a safe, healthy, and fulfilling place to live, work, and play, today and for generations to come, by providing outstanding, cost-effective regional public services.
