2010 RSM Deputy of the Year – Deputy Alan Villanueva
Each year, the Rancho Santa Margarita Sheriff’s Deputies select one of their peers who has provided exemplary service to receive the “Deputy of the Year” award. This honor is especially gratifying to the selected Deputy because it is peer review at its finest and represents a dedication, professionalism and body of work for an entire year. This year, that honor was bestowed on Deputy Alan Villanueva in recognition of his outstanding performance in a variety of assignments, his leadership ability, and his extensive knowledge of law enforcement.
Deputy Villanueva began his training in the City of Lake Forest before he was assigned to the South Unincorporated Area. In February 2007, Deputy Villanueva transferred to Rancho Santa Margarita serving as a Patrol Deputy. His knowledge and skill level made him an easy choice for selection to serve on the City’s Special Enforcement Team, followed by service for over a year and a half on the South County Directed Enforcement Team. As a member of the eight-man Directed Enforcement Team, Deputy Villanueva worked closely with Federal and State law enforcement agencies. Much of his time was spent on surveillance with the FBI during numerous bank robbery investigations in addition to his involvement in numerous narcotics arrests, probation and parole searches and arrests, and taking Parolees at Large (PALs) into custody.
Deputy Villanueva returned to the City of Rancho Santa Margarita in Patrol after serving his rotation on the Directed Enforcement Team. His wide range of experience, knowledge and willingness to assist others aid in his ability to be a Field Training Officer and serve as an excellent resource for all his peers. Additionally, Deputy Villanueva serves as a member of the Critical Incident Response Team, a specially trained team designated to manage special situations and assist Patrol Deputies. Congratulations to Deputy Alan Villanueva for being selected as Rancho Santa Margarita's Deputy of the Year!
